One of the reps brought in some white wines for me to taste. We started out with and Italian white that was similar in structure to a Sauv Blanc. This wine was very light in flavor. The wine wasn't bad or unpleasant but it was boring. Not a lot of flavor and not much depth or complexity. We moved on to a Santa Ynez Sauv Blanc. This was made by Waverly. Waverly makes many quality wines and this was no exception. The wine was crisp and refreshing with a lot of flavor and a great value at only 17.99. You will see this wine at our store. Grab a bottle it is very nice. Waverly makes the Wedell pinot noir which was in our Platinum wine club last November. We moved on to the Waverly pinot noir. This wine is a burgundy style pinot noir, but also very Californian in style due to the weight of the wine. When using the word weight I am referring to the robustness of the wine. This was a more full bodied wine then your classic Burgundy pinot noir. It had a lot going on and was a very nice wine. The flavor was a tart cherry with a hint of dryness on the mid palate, tart finish and a very long and pleasant finish. Just prior to tasting the Pinot we tasted a Chardonnay. The wine was corked which was noticeable on the nose and very apparent on the first sip.
Wendy and I are off to Newport Beach for a few days of r and r. We will back for the Thursday tasting, so we hope to see you there.
And a big congratulations to Becca who just passed her Sommelier certification. We couldn't be more proud of her. She is awesome and a great asset to our store. Go BECCA!!!!!
